HA JIHOON TRANSFORMS PLASTIC WASTE INTO FUNCTIONAL FURNITURE
Furniture designer Ha Ji-hoon collaborates with LG Chem, creating RE:SOBAN, a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Korean furniture, Soban. LG Chem’s RE:SOBAN campaign transforms post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic materials into sustainable furniture, challenging the conventional lifespan of plastic. The science company collects, sorts, and processes plastic waste into PCR material, maintaining properties akin to virgin plastics. The design harmoniously blends traditional Korean cultural elements with contemporary aesthetics. Crafted from recycled plastic, RE:SOBAN features intricate details inspired by flower petals and bold lines reminiscent of Korean folk design. Ha Ji-hoon, recognized with the Craft Prize 2020, elevates the material to create practical and elegant dining tables.
