Steady is a walking aid made for furry friends facing challenges during their strolls. Conceptualized by designers Jungmin Park, Chaewon Lee, and Seungha Baek, the seatbelt-inspired design offers vertical support, assisting elderly dogs with mobility issues to walk safely. The device includes a sensor for measuring walking data and analysis results. Senior dogs often encounter walking-related health issues, such as arthritis and disc problems. Recognizing the limitations of existing walking aids, the team partnered with the veterinary department of Zurich University to create a solution that prioritizes the dog’s comfort, freedom of movement, and adaptability to different terrains.

COMBINE SAFETY AND CONVENIENCE FOR DOG WALKS
Designed to cater to the well-being of senior dogs, Steady includes a user-friendly design, safety features, and analytical capabilities, serving as a practical companion for both elderly dogs and their owners. ‘To achieve this, we designed Steady based on the structure of a seat belt. It is an electricity-free solution that allows a flexible range of motion,’ explained the creators of the project, Jungmin Park, Chaewon Lee, Seungha Baek. Mimicking the seat belt’s safety mechanisms, the straps support the dog’s belly from behind, allowing unhindered walking. Adjusting the length of Steady is simple with a turn of the knob, accommodating dogs of various sizes. The device easily integrates with joint-protective clothing, acting as a harness and connecting directly to the product for a straightforward preparation process before a walk.

The strap part of Steady stretches and reduces like a seat belt, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit for both the dog and the handler. In case of a sudden rebound, the walking aid tightens securely, preventing accidents. A practical feature of Steady is its ability to stand securely by pushing the brake, allowing the dog and owner to take a break during their walk. The supporting structure can be rotated for convenient storage after use. The Steady app complements the physical product by analyzing and presenting information about the dog’s walking patterns, helping owners identify potential issues that may not be apparent in their pet’s regular behavior.
